SPACE MATRIX'S DESIGNATHON
INTEGRATED STUDIO PROJECT 3
I designed this space for the use of a Food-Tech Company dealing with the experimental methods of delivery and production of food. The users of the site belongs to two different industries, working together in collaboration to create a more convenient food experience for the future.
My main inspiration behind my design is the iconic Hawker Centre. There is a pattern throughout hawker centres whereby they are all RADIALLY organised. The energy-concentrated area is in the center, usually a communal eating area, followed by the hawker stalls at the edges.
Similarly, I have place the office programs at the edges and made the centre as a communal lounging area and a large staircase that acts both as a mezzanine level and also a connector for both floors. I wanted to stay true my design concept, Transversality, in which spaces are merged and boundaries are blurred. I wanted to use the suspended roof tiles to define the boundary of these spaces. By overlapping these roof tiles, it creates ambiguity as to where a space/program begins and ends, allowing the users to decide and share these spaces as they wish.
